![]() ![]() It would be nice to finally shed some light on these somewhat dark early days of Lister engines. I have come across official court documents that relate to the absolute winding up of Southwell's business in early 1908 so its reasonable to assume everything was transferred to Listers, Dursley works in that year.ĭoes anybody know what the spec changes on the first few years of L production actually were for ? Such a beast might well exist and would proove the point that very very early L's were more Stovers than Listers. Stover Engine Dates for selected engines Up to Year Ending Serial Number Up to Year Ending Serial Number. I have yet to come across a pre 1910 Lister L that is clearly made in Dursley using Stover parts. ?Īs far as I know, Lister acquired spares from the Southwell sale and these were used for a very short time at Listers until the original Stover design was completely re tooled at Dursley and a more Lister inspired design was produced. Given that Ashton Lister seems to have separated early from the Southwell brothers who came on board with the purchase of their late fathers company in 1908, did Lister really have over 50 changes to his already newish engine design in these very early years. I have an early Lister L from about 1910/11 yet its spec number is in the "L50" series. The early history of RA Listers first engine venture seems to be somewhat lost in time in terms of known hard and fast facts upto WW1. ![]()
